Multi-Car Crash on I-95 in Mansfield Sends Five to the Hospital

A six-car crash on I-95 South in Mansfield early Sunday morning sent five people to the hospital and shut down part of the highway for nearly two hours. The accident happened just after 1:30 a.m. near the Route 140 exit, when one vehicle rolled over, triggering a chain reaction involving several others, according to Massachusetts State Police.
First responders from Mansfield and neighboring towns arrived quickly on scene. All five individuals were transported to area hospitals with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening. State police have not yet released the names of those involved.
All southbound lanes were closed during the response and cleanup. Crews worked to clear the debris and remove the damaged vehicles, eventually reopening the highway shortly after 3:15 a.m. Drivers in the area experienced significant delays during the closure.
Authorities believe a stalled vehicle may have been a factor in the initial collision, though the crash remains under investigation. Police are reminding drivers to maintain safe distances and be alert for unexpected hazards, even during off-peak hours.
This latest crash is part of a growing concern for highway safety in the Mansfield area. I-95 has seen several serious accidents this year, and with summer travel season ramping up, officials are urging drivers to slow down, stay focused, and take extra precautions—especially in low-visibility conditions or when traffic is light.
No further details have been released at this time. Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
